Can you believe this is my first post in almost 10 months?!
When I started working “a normal job” I ended up with less time to do all the other things I wanted to do, and sadly this blog has apparently fallen down on the list of priorities. I have not lost interest in what I envision for this blog… but my ability to keep up with it falls somewhere between dusting and cleaning out that front-room-used-for-storage.
Well, right now I do have more time and it only took me over a month of unemployment to work far enough through that list of “stuff I need to do” to finally get here!
So I’m going to start off with a new art journal challenge, if that’s what you’re here for. Nice and simple, and then you can move on if you don’t care about the rest but the next thing I’m going to do is talk a little bit about controversies and group rules.
Art Journal Challenge:
Make a page, using the color blue and a mask*/outline.
Add a face, a border, and include a meme.
*Mask/outline usually refers to the opposite of a stencil, but in this case I responded quite literally!
This was posted in the Mixed Media Art Journey group on Facebook a month ago (I’m only slightly more active there than I have been here!) and although my response is probably already outdated, I’m still really proud of what I created!
My buy ivermectin australia favorite part of this page is that the mask I added was actually sewn– something I would have never thought possible for me!– using scrap fabric from an actual batch of face masks I’d made to donate.
As always, this challenge is up to you. Feel free to skip or change any prompts that block your creativity rather than challenging or inspiring you.
Feel free to share your creation in the Mixed Media Art Journey group on Facebook… if you want to. It is always fun to see how differently everyone responds to the same set of prompts!
Now, let’s talk about Group Rules:
It’s hard to believe that not too long ago, we were celebrating the growth of this incredible community of artists at 500 members.
As of today, there are now over 5,000 members.
There is also only one admin… and that’s yours truly.
There are a few simple questions for new members who want to join, and I will not accept anyone who doesn’t answer those questions.
The Group Rules can easily be found in the Files section, which is linked to from a pinned announcement in the group discussion and in the “About” box, but I’ll also paste them here:
We’re all artists here, so we know that rules are more or less guidelines and meant to be broken as we see fit. That does not apply to these rules 🙂
- Profanity in artwork is allowed. If this offends you, please continue scrolling– all members should feel comfortable sharing their work, even if it can be viewed as controversial.
- We practice “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
- With that being said, certain things will not be tolerated in this group. Those things include racism, homophobia, and any other pejoratives. The only things banned should be common sense things, but…
- If you have any questions, please PM Caryn Purdy.
- Artwork of ALL kinds are welcome here. This group is not limited to just mixed media art, or art journaling.
- You are welcome to share your own pages, groups, blogs, Etsy shops, Youtube channels, etc. **Within reason**. Please share more than just promotional stuff, or I will have to change this rule.
buy prednisone overnight delivery Not too long ago, I was actually blocked from a group that I had been an active member in for nearly 2 years. This was a group for Cricut crafters. I asked a question about using Cricut for a sewing project. This post was removed for “relevancy”. I questioned that… and then I was blocked from the group.
To me, that experience is is a perfect example of over policing. There are many groups out there that will filter topics you can post about, and I take great pride in not doing so.
To further illustrate this point, there was a conversation that took place recently in the group. It gained a lot of activity.
It took place on a video I shared with this group, discussing several of the key controversies around Hobby Lobby.
Now this led to a polarizing thread of viewpoints covering everything from Pro Life vs. Pro Choice opinions to discussions over lockdown vs. opening up the economy.
These things would never take place in most other groups. Too controversial, right?
I spent the entire day closely monitoring the disagreements taking place in this thread and I could not be prouder of this community because I did not need to remind anyone to be respectful of each other.
You see, we may have different views on things but that does not mean you have to keep your view to yourself.
Not. In. This. Group.
Sometimes we use art to visualize or express our response to things.
So if you’ve created art that you could not share because it can be found too “controversial”… I just want to remind you that Mixed Media Art Journey is never going to be one of those groups that censor controversial things.
All I ask is that you remain respectful.
