Warning– I am NOT a morning person, but have been up since 3AM with an idea that would not let me fall back asleep until I got up, came downstairs, and wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget it. As a result, this blog is brought to you by someone who is incredibly excited about so many things but is also in dire need of a trip to Dunkin Donuts.
Now, since I may have skipped a week (or 3) on this blog, here’s a list of awesome things that have happened, are happening, or will be happening:
First of all, meet Heather.
Like many members of the Mixed Media Art Journey group on Facebook, Heather has been inspired by the community and learned many new art techniques to fuel her creative journey.
Yet, like many “newbies”… she’s also felt overwhelmed and intimidated by it all. It’s not uncommon for the majority of activity in a group like this to come from more experienced artists– those who can share their latest work with confidence, those who have a shop/blog/page of their own to promote, or even share tips that are confusing for somebody who’s just getting started.
I’d like to personally thank Heather for our conversations, because they’ve helped remind me to be more mindful of how overwhelming and confusing it can be to follow along when you’re just getting started. Even in my own tutorials and courses, I’ve always tried to break everything down to be as simple as possible for a beginner but may have overlooked a few things that weren’t “common knowledge”. (Example– when an image is stamped prior to painting with wet medium, one should use archival ink.)
With that in mind, if you are just beginning on your own art journey and would like to follow along with someone who is now sharing her own process from the relatable perspective of a beginner, please click here to check out Heather’s new YouTube channel and give her a subscribe.
Secondly, introducing “Purdy Creative Things”.
You may have noticed in my last few posts that I’ve gone a little crazy on the handmade journals. That’s because, honestly, I really love making them!
But I’ve also refrained from posting lately to avoid focusing too much on only what I’m doing because that’s not what this blog is all about!
^That (and the decision to start offering custom and ready-to-build journals for sale) are the reason I’ve recently started a new, seperate “thing” called Purdy Creative Things.
Building a new business is a process, especially for a right-brainer like me. It is also a part of my own journey so I do hope that you will follow along and show your support. Even if you aren’t interested in buying anything, please be sure to:
- Follow me on YouTube. (This is the Mixed Media Art Journey channel– with a single playlist for Purdy Creative Things.)
- Follow Purdy Creative Things on Facebook.
- Favorite Purdy Creative Things on Etsy*.
- Subscribe to this blog (non-intrusive signup form on the right of this article, or underneath if you’re on a mobile device) for updates.
*As mentioned before, this is a process. You’ll notice that I currently have more products listed & activity on the Facebook page but have not done much on Etsy yet. That’s because there are a few things I need to focus on taking care of first before committing the energy to building a complete shop on Etsy. It may take a few months before I reach that milestone, but there will be more than just journals listed– including some fun digital downloads for your journals or planners that I’ve also been working on! 😉
Moving on…
Third, Happy Birthday to the Handsomest Guy I Know!
Shown in the picture above is Toto, who is 9 years old today. Or, 63(?) in dog years. He’ll be celebrating with an extra treat and a nap. Oh yeah, happy birthday to my brother too. 😀
