IMO, part of the beauty with mixed media art is the “journey” of learning. (And playing.)
There is NO finish line or end goal. We simply create stuff and it brings us joy or peace.
Along the way, we learn different ways to make stuff.
Some methods will be much too stressful to endure the struggle of improving. (For me, that was sewing!)
Others will feel more natural, and the learning curve is much smaller.
But we never start out “perfect” at anything. That’s the beauty of it… getting better. Every “aha!” moment is a reward in itself . 🙂
Our art journals are a reflection of this journey. Remember that, and don’t rip out any pages that you don’t like! I may not show ALL the less-than-pretty pages, but I have no shame about them either! It’s fun to look back on old pages to see how far you’ve grown… but if you REALLY don’t like it then you can always paint or collage over it.
I’m currently learning these new Distress Oxide inks, with minimal experience using the original Distress inks. (I do love Tim Holtz but I’ve been more of a Dylusions girl…)
So the background to this page is a testing ground for layering Distress & Distress Oxide, and the sentiment is an important one: “Follow Your Dreams… just make sure to have fun too!”
What new skill or medium are you currently learning?
